One Room Challenge, One More Week to GO!

We have one more week to go friends!

I can’t even believe it.

I entered the one room challenge freshly started in my new business and feeling like 1. I need a legit office space! & 2. At the very least it will be an added project to my portfolio..

I don’t feel like I’ve gotten much accomplished this past week but of course that’s just me being hard on myself! Hahaha My days are just rolling by. Between arguing with my 2 year old son about why he shouldn’t go outside in a pull-up and/or pajamas & having to cook every single meal, I’m lucky if I fit in some productivity in the day.

However, here we are, Week 7, and I am thrilled about how this space is going to turn out (while second guessing everything). I’m in the “impatient” phase of interior design… The point in design where you just sit back and wait for things to trickle in after all of the planning you’ve done! I’m anticipating delivery for the two major pieces (as expected at the start of this journey)—our desks & dining table—due tomorrow & next week, respectively.

One exciting update is that I have received my prints from Christa David Art, a family friend who left her six-figure job in public health to pursue her dream of being an artist (and doing very well might I add)! But I didn’t choose her because she’s a family friend, I chose her because the collages she makes are so inspiring and ALWAYS feature a black protagonist. I just know this would uplift me daily, while working in my NEW office.

For my main piece by Roma, as I explained in an earlier blog post, I needed to create a floating frame by hand (you can read more about the meaning behind the piece in Week 5). SO pleased my neighbors offered their wood shop to help—despite his healing wrist in a cast. He helped by sharing his shop, tools, and knowledge to help me create a floating frame. Honestly, I could not have done it without him. It was not easy—and there was a lot of math, which was so very confusing despite two brains in the room…

But, we got it done, and I am so happy that I had the courage to ask my artsy neighbors I just met, if they could help me. #Bonding

First thing I did was take a trip to Home Depot to buy the wood and stain (black). Back at the shop, we commenced by making the back of the panel, for the canvas to sit on, cutting 45 degree angles on the ends of all boards after increasingly frustrating mathematics. I was short on wood, so our 2nd foray into the frame came 2 days later, where we made the outer pieces that would actually frame the piece. We wood filled, sanded, and stained the next day, pre-drilling holes to go into the artwork. And voila!

The framed piece is soooo very good and I am thrilled to reveal this whole project to you (fingers crossed) next week! :)

If you missed last week’s blog, you can catch it here. And as always, keep up with other participants on the ORC blog—I’m anticipating everyone’s reveal! :)
