The Modern Farmhouse Kitchen | A Design Process

Once I visited the existing site for this Kitchen, I knew it needed an update.

Envisioning a cleaner space, my client was inspired by the “Farmhouse” style and wanted to recreate that in their kitchen.

As a family of four, we also wanted the kitchen to be durable, practical, and original. The first thing I knew we needed to be rid of: the ceiling fan, soffit, and octagonal window. The kitchen needed more storage, so we designed a pantry in a former breakfast nook to deliver more storage.

For the palette, we infused the calming color of sage green with grey cabinets, incorporated a black granite durable countertop (chosen to mimic soapstone), and finished off with a cle tile cement tile backsplash. The space needed something different, so we chose a graphic porcelain floor tile to round out the updated farmhouse look.

We completed the design with open floating shelving, brass wall sconces and jewel-like hexagonal brass hardware.

The before/after was so magical, and we are so pleased with how it turned out! Please take a look at the finished photos, in our projects!
